BODY PROCEDURES

Body Contouring/Liposuction in Pune

Liposuction at Dr. DC Plastic Surgery is a body contouring procedure that permanently removes stubborn, diet-resistant fat using a dual-technology approach: ultrasound-assisted liposuction (VASER/Liposaver) to emulsify fat and the MicroAire PAL-750 for precise, controlled extraction. Dr. Dhruv Chavan has performed 750+ liposuction procedures, and Dr. DC is the first centre in India to introduce the MicroAire PAL-750 system, supported by official distributor documentation.

Liposuction reshapes specific areas of the body, from the abdomen and flanks to the chin, arms and thighs. It is not a weight-loss treatment: it is a precision sculpting procedure for people close to a stable weight who have localised fat that does not respond to diet and exercise. Packages at Dr. DC range from Rs 80,000 for a single small area to Rs 4,00,000 for high-definition multi-area contouring, with 0% EMI available through Fibe.

KNOWLEDGE CENTRE

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BODY CONTOURING/LIPOSUCTION

What is liposuction and how does it work?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes localised deposits of subcutaneous fat, the fat layer that sits directly beneath the skin, to improve body shape and proportion. Thin cannulas are inserted through incisions of about 5 mm, and fat is loosened and suctioned out in a controlled, layered pattern.

Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from treated areas. Weight loss shrinks fat cells throughout the body, but liposuction physically removes them from specific zones, which is why it can reshape areas that diet and exercise cannot. It does not remove visceral fat around the internal organs and is not a treatment for obesity.

What happens during the procedure?

Every case at Dr. DC follows the same disciplined sequence. Dr. Dhruv Chavan marks the treatment areas with the patient standing, because fat distribution changes when lying down. Tumescent fluid is then infiltrated to numb the area, constrict blood vessels and make fat easier to remove safely.

In fibrous or high-volume areas, ultrasound energy (VASER/Liposaver) is applied first to emulsify the fat. The MicroAire PAL-750 then extracts fat layer by layer using cross-tunnelling from multiple directions, which keeps transitions smooth and avoids dents or waviness. Contours are checked in multiple positions before the incisions are closed with fine absorbable sutures or left to heal as small, faint marks.

What anaesthesia is used for liposuction?

The choice depends on the area and volume being treated. Small areas such as the chin can be treated under local tumescent anaesthesia. Medium cases may use local anaesthesia with sedation (MAC). Larger or multi-area procedures such as 360° liposuction are performed under general anaesthesia with a dedicated anaesthetist.

Small-area patients can usually go home the same day. Large-volume and multi-area cases stay overnight for monitoring at the Pimple Saudagar surgical facility.

How long does the procedure take?

Case type Typical duration
Single small area (chin, arms) 45 to 90 minutes
Single large area (abdomen alone) 1.5 to 2.5 hours
Two areas combined 2 to 3 hours
360° / multi-area 3 to 5 hours
HD / full body contouring 4 to 6 hours

How much fat can be removed in one session?

Routine liposuction at Dr. DC removes up to 5 litres of aspirate in a single session. As a general safety principle, the volume removed is kept within approximately 6 to 8% of the patient’s body weight, and the final decision is individualised based on BMI, fitness, operative time and fluid balance.

Larger-volume liposuction is performed only in carefully selected patients with hospital-level monitoring. A typical single area yields 1 to 2 litres, while a 360° procedure removes 3 to 5 litres.

Which liposuction techniques does Dr. DC use?

Dr. DC follows a dual-technology body contouring approach: ultrasound-assisted liposuction (VASER/Liposaver) emulsifies fat and stimulates skin contraction, and the MicroAire PAL-750 power-assisted system then extracts fat with high precision and minimal tissue trauma. Dr. DC Plastic Surgery is the first centre in India to introduce the MicroAire PAL-750, supported by official distributor documentation.

The PAL-750 is MicroAire’s latest-generation powered handpiece. Its rapid reciprocating motion moves through tissue with less force, which means smoother contouring, less trauma, reduced surgeon fatigue and greater precision across both small and large volumes. The same dual-technology stack also serves revision cases and fat harvesting for grafting.

Which technique is used for which type of case?

Scenario Approach Why
Fibrous areas (male chest, back, upper abdomen) UAL first, then PAL-750 Ultrasound emulsifies dense fibrous fat; PAL contours smoothly
Soft fat areas (flanks, thighs, abdomen) PAL-750 Efficient removal, smooth contouring, less tissue trauma
HD / athletic contouring (selected patients) UAL + PAL-750 Preserves natural muscular definition without an over-operated look
Large-volume cases UAL in fibrous zones + PAL-750 Controlled removal with reduced operative time
Revision liposuction UAL first, then PAL-750 Ultrasound releases scar tissue and fibrosis before refinement
Significant skin laxity Skin excision procedures instead of, or with, liposuction Loose skin will not contract adequately with liposuction alone

Does Dr. DC offer laser or radiofrequency liposuction?

No. Laser-assisted liposuction (SmartLipo), radiofrequency-assisted devices (BodyTite), J-Plasma and water-jet systems are not part of Dr. DC’s practice. The combination of VASER ultrasound for emulsification and skin contraction with PAL-750 precision extraction covers the full clinical range, from delicate chin work to large-volume 360° contouring, without adding thermal-energy devices that carry their own burn and irregularity risks.

Patients whose primary problem is loose skin rather than excess fat are advised honestly: a skin excision procedure such as a tummy tuck, arm lift or thigh lift gives a better result than any energy device.

For athletic etching, see the dedicated HD / 6-Pack Abs Liposuction page. For chin and jawline contouring, see Double Chin Liposuction.

Who is a good candidate for liposuction?

The ideal liposuction candidate is close to a stable, healthy weight (BMI 20 to 30), has localised fat deposits that resist diet and exercise, has reasonably good skin elasticity, and holds realistic expectations. Weight should be stable for at least 3 to 6 months, and smokers must quit at least 4 weeks before and after surgery.

Patients with a BMI between 30 and 35 are assessed individually based on fat distribution, medical fitness and goals. The minimum age is 18, with 21 preferred for purely aesthetic contouring. There is no fixed upper age limit: suitability depends on health, anaesthesia fitness and skin quality rather than age.

    Who should not have liposuction?

Liposuction is postponed or declined for patients with uncontrolled diabetes, active infection, significant bleeding or clotting disorders, severe heart or lung disease, or those on blood-thinning medication that cannot be safely paused. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are absolute contraindications, and surgery is deferred for anyone planning pregnancy in the near future or in the middle of significant weight change.

Dr. Dhruv Chavan also declines surgery on psychological grounds: unrealistic expectations, body dysmorphia, external pressure from others, or patients seeking liposuction as a weight-loss solution.

    Is liposuction a weight-loss procedure?

No. Liposuction is body contouring, not weight reduction. The number on the scale changes only modestly, but body shape, proportion and how clothes fit change significantly. Patients achieve the best long-term outcomes when surgery is combined with a maintained healthy lifestyle.

For the complete criteria, BMI guidance and preparation checklist, see the liposuction candidate guide.

What are the advantages of liposuction?

Liposuction delivers a precise, predictable contour change in a single procedure. Fat cells removed are gone permanently. Multiple areas can be treated in one session, and the harvested fat can be purified and transferred to the breasts, face or buttocks where indicated. With the dual-technology approach, fibrous areas and revision cases that resist standard suction become treatable.

What are the limitations of liposuction?

Liposuction does not treat obesity, does not remove visceral fat, and does not tighten significantly loose skin. Results depend on skin elasticity, and final contours take 3 to 6 months to settle as swelling resolves. A small proportion of patients, under 2 to 3%, need a revision or touch-up after healing completes.

How does liposuction compare with CoolSculpting and other non-surgical options?

Non-invasive fat reduction treatments produce mild, gradual changes in small fat pockets over multiple sessions, while liposuction delivers a larger, more precise, single-procedure result with true three-dimensional sculpting. Patients should also know that cryolipolysis carries an uncommon but recognised risk of paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, where the treated fat enlarges instead of shrinking.

Non-surgical options suit patients wanting subtle improvement who cannot or prefer not to undergo surgery. For a noticeable contour change across one or more areas, liposuction remains the more predictable choice.

How long does liposuction recovery take?

Most patients return to desk work within 3 to 5 days, resume driving a car at 7 to 10 days, restart gym training at 4 to 6 weeks, and see their final contour at 3 to 6 months. A compression garment is worn for 4 to 6 weeks in a two-stage protocol.

When can I return to work?

Job type Return to work Full duties
Desk / office work 3 to 5 days (WFH from day 3 to 4) 2 weeks
Light physical work (teaching, retail) 7 to 10 days 2 to 3 weeks
Moderate physical work (warehouse, construction) 2 weeks (supervision only) 4 to 6 weeks
Heavy physical work / athletes Walking from day 1 6 to 8 weeks full intensity

When can I drive after liposuction?

Car driving typically resumes at 7 to 10 days, once strong pain medication has stopped and emergency braking, twisting and seatbelt movements are comfortable. Two-wheelers take 2 to 3 weeks because they demand more balance and core stability.

The full week-by-week timeline, garment schedule and exercise milestones are in the liposuction recovery guide.

How much does liposuction cost in Pune?

Liposuction at Dr. DC Plastic Surgery costs between Rs 80,000 and Rs 4,00,000 depending on the number of areas, volume of fat and technique. A single small area starts at Rs 80,000, 360° liposuction ranges from Rs 2,00,000 to Rs 3,50,000, and HD/4D multi-area contouring runs from Rs 2,50,000 to Rs 4,00,000.

    Package Cost range
Single small area (chin, arms, knees) Rs 80,000 to Rs 1,50,000
Single large area (abdomen, thighs, back) Rs 1,50,000 to Rs 2,50,000
Two areas combined Rs 2,20,000 to Rs 3,50,000
    360° liposuction (abdomen + flanks + back) Rs 2,00,000 to Rs 3,50,000
    HD / 4D VASER (multi-area athletic etching) Rs 2,50,000 to Rs 4,00,000

Packages include surgeon fees, anaesthesia, operating room charges, standard medications and consumables during admission, dressing changes, clinical photographs and 5 to 6 follow-up visits until recovery. Compression garments are not included and are charged separately as per MRP, typically Rs 5,000 to 8,000.

    What payment options are available?

Dr. DC offers 0% No Cost EMI through Fibe with zero processing fees. Tenure options are 3, 6 or 9 months, with a down payment equivalent to 1 to 2 monthly instalments depending on the plan. Cash, cards, bank transfer and UPI are also accepted.

    Does insurance cover liposuction?

No. Liposuction is classified as cosmetic by the insurance companies, so it is not covered. Documentation is provided where patients need it for financing support.

Full inclusions, additional costs and a worked EMI example are in the liposuction cost guide.

    Is liposuction safe?

Liposuction at Dr. DC has an infection rate below 1% and an overall revision rate under 2 to 3%. Safety is protected by strict patient selection, weight-based tumescent dosing, a routine aspirate ceiling of 5 litres, DVT prophylaxis and structured post-operative monitoring.

What are the most common side effects?

    Side effect Frequency
Temporary numbness in treated areas 10 to 20% (resolves over weeks to months)
Prolonged swelling beyond 3 months 5 to 10%
Skin laxity after fat removal 5 to 15% (depends on pre-existing skin quality)
    Contour irregularities 2 to 5%
Seroma (fluid collection) 1 to 5%
Minor bleeding or bruising issues 1 to 3%
    Infection Under 1%

Serious complications such as fat embolism, deep vein thrombosis or visceral injury are extremely rare, each under 0.1%, and are actively prevented through the protocols described in the liposuction risks and safety guide.

    How are risks minimised?

Every patient goes through fitness assessment, anaesthesia clearance and medication review before surgery. During surgery: single-dose IV antibiotic prophylaxis, compression stockings, pneumatic compression for longer procedures, and continuous monitoring of fluid balance and lidocaine dosing. After surgery: same-day walking, structured follow-up from day 5 to 7, and early intervention if seroma or contour concerns appear.

    What happens at the consultation?

The consultation with Dr. Dhruv Chavan takes 15 to 20 minutes and includes medical history review, physical examination with a pinch test, skin elasticity assessment, body mapping, BMI review, a realistic-expectations discussion, before and after photos, and a written cost breakdown. In-person consultations are free at all six Pune clinics; video consultations cost Rs 1,000, non-refundable and not deducted from the surgery cost.

How soon can surgery be scheduled?

Surgery is typically scheduled 2 to 3 weeks after the consultation, once pre-operative tests and anaesthesia fitness are complete. All liposuction surgery takes place at the Pimple Saudagar surgical facility.

    What happens on surgery day?

Patients are admitted, marked in the standing position, and taken through anaesthesia as planned for their case. After surgery, recovery-room observation continues until vitals are stable. Small-area patients go home the same day with their garment fitted; larger cases stay overnight. Blood-tinged tumescent fluid leaking from the incisions in the first 24 to 48 hours is normal and expected.

    What results can I expect?

Contour change is visible immediately, though swelling masks it at first. Around half the final result shows at 4 to 6 weeks, 80% by 2 to 3 months, and the final contour settles at 3 to 6 months. See the liposuction results guide and the before and after gallery.

How should I care for the treated areas in the first week?

Walking starts on the day of surgery and is repeated every 1 to 2 hours during waking hours to protect circulation. Showering is allowed from 48 to 72 hours. Fluid leakage stops on its own within the first two days, and the first dressing change happens on day 2 to 3. Pain typically sits at 3 to 5 out of 10 and is well controlled with prescribed medication.

How does the compression garment protocol work?

Compression follows a two-stage protocol: a Stage 1 garment worn 24 hours a day for the first 3 weeks (removed only for bathing), then a Stage 2 garment worn during the daytime for the next 3 weeks. Garments are charged separately as per MRP, typically Rs 5,000 to 8,000 depending on the type.

    What follow-up care is included?

The package includes 5 to 6 follow-up visits until recovery, with the first review at day 5 to 7. Lymphatic drainage massage, where recommended, begins around day 5 to 7 and is charged separately by session. Dressing changes during follow-ups carry no extra cost.

What long-term habits protect the result?

A stable weight is the single biggest protector of a liposuction result. Regular exercise, adequate protein, and staying smoke-free all support skin retraction, which continues improving for 6 to 12 months. Significant weight gain enlarges the remaining fat cells and can blur the contour, so maintenance matters more than any follow-up procedure.

    COMMON QUERIES

Frequently Asked Questions for Body Contouring/Liposuction

    Is Liposuction painful?

Our surgeons perform this procedure under anesthesia. So there is no pain during surgery. Mild discomfort and soreness may occur post-surgery but can be managed with medication.

How soon can I see the results?

Some improvement is visible immediately, but full results take 3-6 months as swelling subsides and the skin adjusts to the new contours.

Will the fat return after Liposuction?

The removed fat cells do not regenerate, but new fat can accumulate with poor diet or lack of exercise.

Are there visible scars after Liposuction?

The incisions are small and strategically placed to be less noticeable. Over time, they fade significantly with proper care.

Can Liposuction help with weight loss?

Liposuction is a body contouring procedure, not a weight-loss method. It targets stubborn fat areas but does not replace diet and exercise.

Which body parts can be treated with liposuction?

Common areas include the belly, thighs, hips, arms, back, and chin.
